Client Reporting for Creator Campaigns: What Good Looks Like

The quality of your client reporting is the single strongest predictor of client retention in creator marketing. Here's what good looks like: and why most agencies aren't there yet.

A client review meeting for a creator campaign tells you almost everything you need to know about the agency running it. If the deck opens with reach and impression numbers, you're looking at an agency still operating in the pre-attribution era. If it opens with conversions, CPA, and creator-level performance breakdown, you're looking at an agency that understands what clients are actually paying for. The gap between these two presentations is not just aesthetic. It's the gap between an agency that can be replaced by the next pitch and one that's structurally embedded in its clients' marketing operations.

What clients actually want from creator campaign reports

Marketing directors, heads of growth, and CMOs receiving creator campaign reports share a consistent set of questions they want answered: Did this campaign drive measurable business results? What did each creator contribute to those results? What was the cost per result compared to our other acquisition channels? What do we do differently next time? A report that answers all four questions concisely: preferably on a single page before the appendices: is doing its job. A report that requires the client to dig through seventeen slides of engagement rate data to find the conversion numbers is making the client do work the agency should have done.

The attribution-first report structure

The structure of a good creator campaign report follows the funnel from exposure to conversion. Section one: campaign summary: what was the objective, how many creators, what was the total spend, what was the overall result. Section two: attribution summary: total clicks, total conversions, overall CPA, comparison to target and to baseline channel. Section three: creator-level breakdown: each creator's contribution, ranked by conversions, with CPA and notable content performance. Section four: insights and recommendations: what the data says about what to do next. Section five: appendices with the supporting detail for clients who want it.

The report that leads with "your campaign reached 3.4 million people" is answering a question your client stopped caring about the moment their CEO asked them for the Q2 acquisition numbers. Lead with what they got paid to care about.

Cadence and format

The best reporting cadence for creator campaigns depends on campaign length, but a common high-performing structure is: a brief launch confirmation when creators go live, a mid-campaign performance pulse at the halfway point (with any recommended adjustments), and a full campaign report within five working days of campaign end. The mid-campaign pulse is particularly valuable: it creates an opportunity to make evidence-based adjustments while there's still campaign budget to redirect, which produces better final results and demonstrates active campaign management to the client.

Format matters too. PDF decks work for board-level summaries. But clients who want to explore the data themselves benefit from live dashboard access: where they can filter by creator, by date range, by conversion type: without waiting for the agency to pull a custom report. Agencies that provide dashboard access report significantly higher client satisfaction and lower reporting overhead. See also how brands are measuring ROI beyond impressions.

Reporting as competitive differentiation

In a market where most creator agencies are still presenting reach and engagement summaries, attribution-first reporting is a genuine competitive differentiator. It demonstrates operational sophistication that clients recognise and value. It makes the agency's work visibly different in client reviews. It creates conversations about optimisation rather than conversations about whether the campaign was worth it.

The agencies that win the most competitive pitches are not always the ones with the strongest creative ideas. They're often the ones that can sit in the pitch and say "here's what our last five campaigns drove, at what CPA, across which creators: and here's how we'd apply that learning to your programme." That presentation, backed by real data, wins pitches on merit. And clients won on merit stay longer, grow faster, and refer more than clients won on relationship alone.
